Antecedendo a principais vendas do terceiro trimestre, setembro não grandes destaques, mas ainda assim trouxe alguns resultados robustos. A Sotheby’s escolheu o ator Robert Pattinson para sua última venda com curadoria contemporânea, e três de suas seleções fizeram parte da lista de lotes do mês. O trabalho abstrato sem título de Willem de Kooning, de 1964, alcançou o dobro de sua alta estimativa de arrecadar US$ 4 milhões, a obra hiper-realista de Vija Celmins arrecadou US$ 1,9 milhão; e Warhol permaneceu dentro de sua estimativa de US$ 1,4 milhão.
A estrela de mercado recém-formada Ernie Barnes, com a impressionante Solid Rock Congregation (1993), arrecadou mais de US$ 1,6 milhão, excedendo a estimativa inicial entre US$ 500.000 a US$ 700.000. Tyreb Mehta mais uma vez ficou entre os melhores lotes do mês; e como sempre, a abóbora e a rede infinita de Yayoi Kusama desempenharam bons resultados.
