Historicamente, agosto tem sido o único mês do ano em que casas de leilões não têm grandes vendas. Mas este foi diferente. A Sotheby’s voltou a realizar um leilão em Cingapura, depois de uma lacuna de 15 anos, arrecadando US $ 18 milhões.
Em um comunicado, Jasmine Prasetyo, diretora-gerente da subsidiária da Sotheby’s no Sudeste Asiático, disse que o resultado “excedeu nossas expectativas e ressalta o potencial de Cingapura e do Sudeste Asiático como um todo”.
Um dos destaques da venda uma pintura a óleo de 1928 do artista russo-alemão Walter Spies. Tierfabel (Conto de um animal) – uma entre as únicas 20 obras do artista a serem leiloadas – arrecadou US$ 2,9 milhões. Enquanto isso Georgette Chen Boats, artista de Cingapura, estabeleceu um novo recorde mundial com o preço mais alto para um pioneiro do movimento de arte moderna de Nanyang.
Embora a venda de Cingapura tenha sido o principal evento de agosto, a maioria dos grandes lotes do mês foi vendida em casas de leilões em Seul e na Coréia do Sul. Veja abaixo a lista das 15 obras mais caras vendidas em leilão em agosto de 2022.
