Mulheres e artistas de gênero não definidos são os destaques da exposição da Bienal de Veneza 2022, que deve desafiar o papel dominante dos homens na sociedade e considerar as relações entre humanos, tecnologia e diferentes formas de vida na Terra.

“The Milk of Dreams”, a exposição de arte internacional com curadoria da italiana Cecilia Alemani, residente em Nova York, contará com 213 artistas de 58 países, incluindo 26 artistas italianos, neste que será o line-up com as nacionalidades mais diversificada dentre as edições do programa.

A exposição também abordará um futuro pós-pandemia por meio de um diálogo entre obras históricas e contemporâneas. A mostra vai exibir um total de 180 artistas, mortos e vivos, com 80 produções recém-comissionadas.

Nan Goldin, Barbara Kruger e Lousie Lawler estão na lista de 213 artistas, ao lado das estrelas em ascensão Jamian Juliano-Villani, Tau Lewis e Christina Quarles. Artistas históricos, incluindo a artista e ativista Josephine Baker e a pintora do século XIX Georgiana Houghton também estão incluídos.

“A presença de um grande número de artistas femininas e de gênero não definidos desafia a figura do homem como centro do universo”, disse a curadora à imprensa.

Desde que foi nomeada, Alemani trabalha remotamente de seu escritório em Nova York. O conteúdo da tão esperada exposição é resultado de muitas conversas online longas e sinceras que ela teve com artistas nos últimos dois anos, depois que a exposição foi adiada de 2021 devido à pandemia do COVID-19.

“A etapa de pesquisa e aprendizado teve que ser feita remotamente… mas conheci centenas e centenas de artistas pelo Zoom. Não poder estar em seus estúdios é triste. Não poder ver seus trabalhos pessoalmente significava que meus sentidos não podiam ser ativados”, disse Alemani. Por outro lado, ela disse que a experiência trouxe “estranhas sensações de intimidade” e discussões “confessionais”.

Essas conversas foram destiladas em três grandes temas que estão “entrelaçados” na exposição, que ocupa o Arsenale e o Giardini: “A representação dos corpos e sua metamorfose”, “A relação entre indivíduos e tecnologias” e “A conexão entre os corpos e a terra”. Em cada uma das seções principais, as obras de arte ecoarão as misteriosas representações de criaturas mutantes apresentadas no livro da artista surrealista Leonora Carrington, The Milk of Dreams, que inspirou o título da exposição deste ano.

A Bienal de Veneza deste ano também contará com 80 pavilhões nacionais, incluindo cinco países participantes pela primeira vez: Camarões, Namíbia, Nepal, Omã e Uganda. Cazaquistão, Quirguistão e Uzbequistão também terão seu próprio pavilhão pela primeira vez.
