A primeira edição sob a direção de Kyla McMillan traz mais de 230 galerias, novos formatos e foco na diversidade do mercado americano e internacional
A Armory Show 2025, uma das principais feiras de arte dos Estados Unidos, acontece de 5 a 7 de setembro no Javits Center, em Nova York, com preview VIP no dia 4. Esta será a primeira edição sob a direção de Kyla McMillan, que assumiu o comando em julho de 2024, após o anúncio da última edição.
A nova diretora traz uma proposta que une tradição e inovação. Entre as novidades estão um novo mapa da feira, a criação de uma seção inédita chamada Function, além da reconfiguração do espaço dedicado às obras de grande escala. “Nossa proposta é fortalecer a identidade da Armory Show como uma feira enraizada na vitalidade cultural de Nova York, ao mesmo tempo em que promove conexões globais”, destacou McMillan.

Ao todo, são mais de 230 expositores, com 55 estreando na feira, como Skarstedt, Megan Mulrooney, ILY2, Superposition Gallery, Martha’s e JO-HS, e o retorno de mais de 20 galerias, entre elas White Cube, Andrew Kreps, Esther Schipper e Instituto de Visión.
Entre os nomes de peso que participam desta edição estão 303 Gallery, Ben Brown Fine Arts, James Cohan, Garth Greenan Gallery, Mariane Ibrahim, Kasmin, Sean Kelly, Victoria Miro, Nara Roesler, Michael Rosenfeld, Silverlens, Templon e Vielmetter.
Participam também as galerias brasileiras Estação, Nara Roesler e Albuquerque Contemporânea.
Novas seções ampliam o alcance da Armory Show
A seção Solo, focada em apresentações individuais, passa a estar distribuída dentro do setor principal de galerias. Participam dessa proposta nomes como Catharine Clark Gallery, Luis de Jesus, SMAC Gallery e Spinello Projects.
A grande novidade, no entanto, é a estreia da seção Function, sob curadoria de Ebony L. Haynes, diretora da 52 Walker e David Zwirner. A proposta é investigar como artistas dialogam, tensionam ou subvertem os princípios do design. Nove galerias integram essa estreia, incluindo 56 Henry, Corbett vs. Dempsey, House of Gaga, Marinaro e Silke Lindner, vencedora do Gramercy International Prize.
A tradicional seção Platform será liderada pela organização Souls Grown Deep, que promove artistas negros do sul dos Estados Unidos. Já a seção Focus, com curadoria de Jessica Bell Brown, também volta seu olhar para práticas artísticas oriundas do sul americano, reunindo galerias como The Hole, Timothy Hawkinson Gallery, K Contemporary, What If The World e Wolfgang Gallery.
O setor Presents, dedicado a galerias com menos de 10 anos, reúne participantes como Rebecca Camacho Presents, 1969 Gallery, Fragment, kó, Kendra Jayne Patrick e Hannah Traore Gallery. E o segmento Not-for-Profit contará com espaços institucionais como Lower East Side Printshop, Tierra del Sol Gallery e Storefront Center for Art and Architecture, este último vencedor do Armory Spotlight Award.
Além disso, a feira sediará a 8ª edição do Curatorial Leadership Summit, comandada por Eric Crosby, diretor do Carnegie Museum of Art.
Na visão de Kristell Chadé, diretora executiva de feiras do grupo Frieze, que controla a Armory Show desde 2023, a escolha de Kyla McMillan reflete a busca por uma liderança com olhar curatorial apurado e profundo entendimento dos motores que fazem uma feira ter sucesso. “A Armory Show mantém sua identidade como uma feira distintamente americana, moldada pelo ritmo, pela energia e pelo alcance de Nova York”, afirmou.
